The exclusive showing of the Spring/Summer 2001 EMME Collection was at Lord and Taylor last night. Of course, I was the first in line waiting anxiously for the door to open. People were packed in the hallway and around the corner waiting for the doors to open. There were 400 booked reservations and another long line of people standing in the “waiting list” section, hoping that everyone would not show up. Before the doors opened, Emme herself walked past the crowd greeting everyone. When I saw her, she gave me a big hug before disappearing behind closed doors. OK……. Did I feel special or what??? As soon as the doors opened, I positioned myself in the front row so I could take some awesome photos.
Since I was so early, I decided to interview some individuals as they filled up the room. There were women there from their 20’s to 60’s, all shapes and all sizes. The first guest I interviewed was Anna, a Title Insurance Sales Representative, from East Meadow, NY. Her favorite item from last season was the crocheted black duster. After the show, I asked her wh at her favorite items were for Spring,
"I love the stretch denim corset! I never thought I would ever buy myself a corset. When I saw how fabulous it looked on the model, I knew I would have to get it. I also love the lightweight suede group, it is very flowing and drapey. My favorite in that group was the wrap dress. It is so flattering." Next I spoke with Kathryn, a stay at home Mom, from Brooklyn, NY. “I love Emme’s Collection because it is fun, young and colorful!” claimed Kathryn. Catherine Schuller herself, Retailer Editor of Mode Magazine, was sitting right next to me. She said “ I was involved in the launch of the Fall 2000 EMME Collection. I have watched the line grow and develop. I really like all the signature pieces, which will become everyone’s wardrobe staples. A big thanks to Emme, for bringing back the drama of the duster.”
Soon the lights went down and the music began. Emme came out to announce her new Collection and say thanks to all the wonderful customers who have supported her collection. She encouraged everyone to take her survey on the emmestyle.com site. The people at the EMME Collection read all your input and take action to cater to the requests of the customer. Now, let the show begin……

The models were flanked in beautiful fabrics and exciting new silhouettes. The first group “On the Edge”, consisted of a mix and match group of silk charmeuse in blouses and skirts, and great sand stretch suitings and lycra cami’s.
Then the catwalk was full of the “EMME Essentials”. This group consisted of a flowing matte jersey in black, Tomato, Citron and Azalea. You could mix and match all day with these core items of skirts, sheaths, shirts, cardigans and …. of course, the POWER CAMI. (As far as I am concerned, you should own that cami in all colors!!!) Moving right along….. to the “Snappin” group. This group was full of color, awesome prints, novelty items and silhouettes. It is in this group that you will find that special fashion item that you ad to your wardrobe that makes every head turn in the room when you arrive. Emme herself was wearing the tangerine drop needle duster and matching shell when she started the show. You could hear the audience oooooh and aaaaah as each exciting new look appeared on the catwalk. There was a beautiful wild orchid paisley silk georgette print, knit denim, knit suede (which I had never seen before), and the POWER CAMI!! Hey, when I hear “stretch”, I am in!! The final group was “Mon Cheri”. For those of you who love the look of black and white, this group is for you! All the key items you could want with a touch of cerise colored linings or a geowave here or there and you are set! Again, there were stretch fabrics. They even had stretch linen. I especially loved the stretch linen trench coat in khaki with cerise lining. Applause, applause, applause, the crowd loved the collection!
After the show, I was able to talk to the “Guru of Fashion”, Michele Weston. She said “Color is in and Emme uses it in h er line in a real subtle way. I loved the beading, ruffles, chiffon and crochet. This line is young and young at heart. So, it works for the 20 year old and the 40 year old. It is all in the way you mix it. She gives you a way to create your own personal style and personal style is what it is all about.” Sitting next to Michele Weston was Nicole Brewer, Senior Style Editor at Mode Magazine. “I love the color!! I am all about wearing the melons and mints. I especially loved the flirty ruffles.” I stopped one of the models, Alexa, on the way out and asked her what her favorite item on the line was. “I would have to say the POWER CAMI. Lycra is a curvy woman’s best friend. When you put on the power cami, it hugs you, supports you, moves with you and makes you feel sexy.” claimed Alexa
The excitement continued down on the 9th floor at Lord and Taylor. The department was full of woman trying on the new styles. Emme was there greeting everyone and signing autographs. It truly was an awesome evening!!
