Our "inside source" at Nordstrom's attended the Emme Show in Chicago and told us about it, here's the scoop...
When you arrive on the third floor you step off the escalator and the Encore department is immediately to your right. The cafe where they held the event is directly across the floor from it. The cafe was closed at 4:00 and converted for the event - a stage was brought in for the front of the cafe with the EMME logo on the back drop. EMME and her co-host sat in high directors chairs with cordless mikes to commentate and chit chat during the informal modeling. The tables had been preset with platters of wonderful sandwiches and pastries. They served red and white wine and individual pizzas before and during the show. You were escorted in and seated. Everything about it was first class. There were flowers on all the tables. At the conclusion of the modeling there was a question and answer period where the guest was given a cordless mike to ask their question from their table. It was wonderful that everyone really got to hear from EMME what went into the line and what matters about each article of clothing - her personal anecdotes about wearing it or developing it. It made it very clear that she is not just a name on the label, but that the product reflects her personal wardrobe needs and taste.
Following the show the guests were invited to the department to meet EMME individually as she signed a copy of Mode magazine for them. Nothing was rushed - they each had a few minutes to chit chat with her. The store had put in a logo spot light that spelled EMME out on the floor in front of the department. They had made a photo screen of the photo of EMME in the brown faux suede skirt (the first Mode ad shot) and it was hanging over the table where she would be signing. Since the store does not have vendor signage or fixtures (which is actually quite elegant - their own fixtures are beautiful and the product shows well with the cleaner lines that result) this screen had tremendous impact. The signing table was at the front of the department, so as women waited in line they were watching other women trying things on and shopping - this inspired them to hold spots for each other while they tried things on. It was very much a "girlfriends" evening, all customers - girlfriends out together for a fun evening. This is really important - since a lot of what this clothing is about is unfamiliar, EMME really stressed the importance of shopping with a girlfriend who will be straight with you about if it flatters you.
