Putting the Pieces Together:

PUTTING THE PIECES TOGETHER - by Catherine Schuller of CurveStyle: Reshaping Fashion has been an actress, model, spokesperson, author and now promoter and marketer.

I went backstage to tell Marcia's client how much I enjoyed her performance but asked here why she thought that once again, we full figured femmes were being dissed and excluded from the definition of desirable beauty.
I know now after years of being who I am that there are men who actually prefer full figured woman and who certainly don?t look at us as second class citizens in the beauty brigade. I knew my years of modeling and various roles as spokesperson in the "plus size industry" were being put to the test.
14+ on Sixth

The plus size industry now has it's own designer showcase, a fashion show that will feature the brightest and the best of what's being created by the top designers working within the full figured market. Each season the straight size fashion industry has it's own fashion week event, held under the big white tent at Bryant Park. It is called 7th on Sixth.... Seventh Avenue (the garment district) on Sixth Avenue, the avenue where Bryant Park resides. Every major buyer, retailer and industry insider or who's who gathers each year to view "the collections", every hour on the hour, a new designer is showcased with the top fashion models previewing the latest and newest looks for the season. The event is the "must see" of every fall and spring season. But it has only existed for the "straight size" aspect of the industry and the models have only been the size 4 and 6's walking down the runway.

For many years,Catherine Schuller, creator and producer of 14+ on Sixth, dreamed of having the plus size industry represented under the tent. But, the powers that be have never thought to include the full figured models and the designers who create for them the 7th on Sixth Event. "It always hurt me that we were never included, as if we were - outsiders in the fashion industry, not appropriate for the industry to accept and feature in the biggest event of each season."
